PNP-SAF troopers capture wanted murder suspect
AN armed wanted murder suspect was captured on Wednesday by commandos from the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force during a manhunt operation in Lianga, Surigao del Sur, PNP-SAF director Brig. Gen. Rudolph B. Dimas said yesterday.
Bernelito Crido, the subject of a non-bailable warrant of arrest for murder issued by the Lianga Regional Trial Court Branch 28, was tracked down in his hiding place in Purok 5 Log Deck, Bgy. San Isidro, Lianga municipality.
Members of the 1st Special Action Battalion of the PNP-SAF provided tactical support to officers from the Regional Intelligence Unit 13 in arresting the suspect, who has been tagged as “armed and dangerous.”
Confiscated from the suspect was a cal. .45 semi-automatic pistol with magazine containing five live ammunition.
Dimas said that apart from the murder case, the suspect is also facing a frustrated murder charge, with a P200,000 bail recommended for Crido’s temporary liberty.
The captured suspect is now being held in a local police lock-up facility pending his presentation to court.
The seized gun was placed under the safekeeping of local police evidence custodians.
Dimas commended the SAF troopers who caught the suspect and said they will be awarded for their dedication to duty.
