THE Philippine National Police yesterday mourned over three Bicol policemen who were killed in the line of duty.

PNP chief General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. said that Patrolman Ronnie Revereza Jr., Chief Master Sergeant Joseph Ostonal and Corporal Jeffrey Refereza died while trying to stop lawbreakers in Naga City in Camarines Sur and Albay, respectively.

The top cop extended his heartfelt condolences and support to the bereaved families of the three fallen policemen.

“The PNP extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Patrolman Ronnie Riverieza Jr., Police Chief Master Sergeant Joseph Ostonal and Police Corporal Jeffrey Refereza.

Their sacrifice will forever be etched in the history of the Philippine National Police as a shining example of courage and dedication,” Acorda said.

Revereza, a member of the Naga City Police Station 3, died when he responded to a distress call at Lomeda Subdivision, Barangay San Felipe in Naga City.

The policeman and his team were investigating the shooting of one delivery rider identified as Ryan Vargas inside the subdivision when he was shot to death.

Revereza and his team were questioning some residents and looking for potential CCTV footages that could help them in identifying the shooter of Vargas, identified as Eric Robert Singson.

However, Singson fired shots at the officers, hitting Revereza in the head.

Naga City Police Station 3 commander Major Noallan Romobio and his men rushed Revereza to the Mother Seton Hospital where he died last June 7.

M/Sgt. Ostonal and Cpl. Refereza were shot to death by two suspects identified as Richard Bonaobra and Fernan Jardinel in Bgy. Ilaor Sur in Oas, Albay. The two suspects were arrested by pursuing officers in a hot pursuit operation.

An investigation showed that Ostonal and Refereza were conducting their routine patrol when the gunmen who were riding a motorcycle suddenly appeared and opened fire at them.

Both cops were hit in the different parts of their bodies and were pronounced dead-on-arrival by an attending physician in a Ligao City hospital.
