PHIILPPINE National Police Highway-Patrol Group director Brig. Gen. Eleazar P. Matta yesterday said they have smashed a robbery-holdup gang following an anti-crime operation in Camarines Norte.

In a report to PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, the PNP-HPG director said five members of the syndicate were arrested during the operation along Maharlika Highway in Bgy. Tabugon in Sta. Elena, Camarines Norte.

Recovered from the suspects were high-value electronic items they stole from their latest victim in Surigao del Norte last March 9.

Matta said that members of the Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur Provincial Highway Patrol Teams of the Regional Highway Patrol Unit 5 conducted the operation, with the support of the local police under Police Regional Office 5 director Brig. Gen. Andre P. Dizon.

The operation was launched after the RHPU5 received an information that the suspects were on their way to Bicol region from Leyte after staging the heist in Surigao del Norte.

Officers launched a dragnet, which resulted in the apprehension of the suspects while on board a Honda CR-V with plate no. LMH 384 which was identified as the vehicle used by the suspects who staged the heist in Surigao del Norte.

The arrested suspects were turned over to the Sta. Elena Municipal Police Station for filing of appropriate criminal charges.
