PNP-HPG, Rizal cops recover stolen Grab vehicle
COMBINED agents of the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group and the Rizal Police Provincial Office on Friday night recovered a Grab vehicle stolen from its driver by three persons in Antipolo City early in the day, PNP-HPG director Brig. Gen. Wilfredo M. Segun said yesterday.
The vehicle – a metallic red Toyota Innova with plate no. NHJ 3119 – was found on Sampaloc Road in Bgy. Plaza Aldea in Tanay, Rizal by members of the Rizal Provincial Highway Patrol Team and the Tanay Municipal Police Station led by Lt. Nestor Baylosis and Capt. Neil Payos respetively, said the PNP-HPG director.
Registered under the name of a Makati City resident, the Transportation Network Vehicle Service being driven by 45-year-old Vincent Ramos was stolen by three passengers who were picked from a hamburger joint in Meycauayan City in Bulacan for transport to the Boso-Boso Highland Resort in Antipolo City.
However, upon arriving at the resort, the suspects declared a holdup and forced the driver to surrender his two mobile phones and cash amounting to P7,000 before transporting him to the back of the vehicle. One of the suspects drove the vehicle.
While leaving the place, the driver managed to jump out of the moving vehicle and grab a backpack belonging to one of the thieves.
Recovered inside the bag was a “Pag-Ibig Loyalty Identification Card” believed to be belonging to one of the suspects.
Shortly after the incident was reported to the Antipolo City Police Station, a radio voice and flash alarm was issued, said Segun.
He added that shortly after the alarm was raised, the Rizal PHPT led by Lt. Nestor Baylosis and Capt. Payos received a phone call from a concerned citizen, who reported the presence of a suspicious vehicle in their area, which fit the description of the stolen Grab wagon.
The Rizal HPG and Tanay policemen under Rizal Police Provincial Office director Col. Felipe B. Maraggun immediately rushed to the site, where they recovered the stolen wagon along the Sampaloc highway.
The thieves were believed to have abandoned the wagon in the area before boarding another get-away vehicle.
Follow-up operations are underway to identify and arrest the three suspects who will be facing criminal charges for robbery-holdup and carnapping, said Segun.
