A STOLEN car being sold online was recovered by agents of the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group in an anti-carnapping operation in Dasmariñas City in Cavite last Friday, PNP-HPG Officer-in-Charge, Brigadier General Eleazar P. Matta said yesterday.

The official said that the registered owner of the silver metallic Mitsubishi Mirage complained that she lost her vehicle thru the so-called ‘Pasalo/Assume Balance’ scheme in 2023.

A PNP-HPG investigation showed that the victim sold the vehicle in May 2023 under an ‘Assume-Balance’ agreement to a buyer from Buguey, Cagayan who issued her post-dated checks.

However, the bank did not honor the checks starting October 2024 due to lack of funds prompting the registered owner to attempt to recover the car from the buyer.

The woman said the buyer tried to hide the location of her vehicle until she discovered that it was already being offered for sale on Facebook Marketplace.

With the help of the PNP-HPG, the woman managed to recover the vehicle in Barangay Sta. Cruz 1 in Dasmariñas City last Friday evening. Members of the Cavite Provincial Highway Patrol Team helped the victim recover the car after the woman presented its original Certificate of Registration and Original Receipt as her proof of ownership.

Brig. Gen. Matta said the car was parked unattended when found by the Cavite HPG. Upon learning of the vehicle’s status, its current possessor voluntarily surrendered the car to the Cavite PHPT for further investigation and documentation.
