PNP-HPG men recover 4 stolen vehicles
FOUR stolen vehicles were recovered by agents of the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) in a series of anti-carnapping operations this week, PNP-HPG officer-in-charge Brig. Gen. Eleazar P. Matta announced yesterday.
One of the vehicles, a Toyota Innova with plate no. LAI 5123, was found being driven by a resident of Davao City identified only as “Howard,” the official said.
Matta said that the registered owner of the wagon identified as Deborah Salazar sought the help of the Regional Highway Patrol Unit 11 after she spotted her missing vehicle inside the Prestige Subdivision in Cabantian, Davao City.
Officers who went to the site flagged down the Innova driver and informed him of the complaint, prompting him to voluntarily surrender the wagon which was believed to have been acquired through the “Rent-Tangay” scheme.
The second, a black Geely SUV with plate no. DAS 8211, was recovered by the Eastern District and Manila District Highway Patrol Teams in Tondo with the help of the Global Positioning System installed in the vehicle last Wednesday.
The recovery of the vehicle was made after its registered owner Nina Fernando went to the HPG National Capital Region office to seek assistance in recovering her vehicle which she claimed went missing after being borrowed by her close friend “Chee.”
“Chee” claimed that the vehicle was forcibly taken from her and she reported the incident to the Quezon City Police District Station 4. However, during questioning, the complainant said she discovered that all the documents submitted to the court by “Chee” were all spurious, prompting her to go to the PNP-HPG headquarters.
Matta said that with the help of the GPS installed by the owner in the vehicle, the missing SUV was traced in Tondo, where it was voluntarily surrendered by its possessor who is also now undergoing investigation.
In San Carlos City in Negros Occidental, local HPG officers recovered a motorcycle stolen last Tuesday.
The suspected motorbike thief was arrested and is now facing criminal charges for violation of Republic Act 10883 or the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016.
An investigation showed that the owner of the Honda XRM 125cc motorbike with plate no. FC84010 parked the vehicle in front of his residence.
He later found it missing a few hours after prompting him to file a complaint before the local police and the HPG.
A review of all available CCTV footages in the area led to the identification of the suspect who was arrested in a hot pursuit operation inside Hacienda San Jose in Bgy. Guadalupe.
The fourth vehicle, a Mitsubishi Xpander, was recovered by RHPU 10 agents in Cagayan de Oro City last Wednesday.
Matta said his men were conducting a “plate-spotting” operation along Mastersons Avenue in Upper Carmen area when they flagged down the driver of the Xpander with plate no. LAP 1634.
A check eventually showed that the vehicle was included in a Davao City police alarm of wanted motor vehicles.
