PNP-HPG impounds 1,842 MVs, MCs for various violations

A TOTAL of 1,842 motor vehicles and motorcycles were impounded by agents of the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) in simultaneous operations across the country on Wednesday, PNP-HPG director, Brigadier General Alexander C. Tagum said.

In a report to PNP chief, General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar, the official said that the impounded vehicles include 1,680 motorcycles and 162 motor vehicles.

Of the 1,680 motorcycles, one also turned out to be included in the HPG list of wanted motorcycles while one of the 162 motor vehicles was also found included in the HPG alarm list.

Tagum said that during the nationwide operation, they also confiscated 10 sirens, 43 horns, 714 LED lamps, five strobe lights, 90 fog lights, one dome light, 27 blinkers and 40 modified motorcycle mufflers.

The banned sirens, blinkers and other gadgets were found attached to 194 motor vehicles and 703 motorcycles.

Tagum said that the drivers of 3,596 motor vehicles and 9,233 motorcycles were issued either a Temporary Operator’s Permit, Traffic Citation Tickets and Ordinance Violation Report.

The official said that the apprehensions were made during the conduct of their 47th “Lambat-Bitag Sasakyan” or “One-Time, Big-Time” operations against wanted vehicles, violators of different traffic rules and regulations and Presidential Decree 96, which makes unlawful the use or attachment of sirens, bells, horns, whistles or similar gadgets that emit exceptionally loud or startling sounds, including dome lights and other signaling or flashing devices on motor vehicles.

Members of the 17 Regional Highway Patrol Units and the HPG Special Operations Division-Task Force Limbas launched the nationwide operation with the support of the 17 PNP regional offices, the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and other partner-agencies.

Tagum said that also accosted during the operation were the drivers of four vehicles with altered/painted plate numbers; 130 drivers of motor vehicles and motorcycles with their license plates covered with plastic/glass; three drivers found to be carrying fake driver’s licenses; 109 drivers with dirty plates; and 171 drivers with no LTO validating stickers.

Also apprehended were 130 drivers with improperly displayed plates; 49 drivers of heavily-tinted motor vehicles; 1,275 violators of the Seatbelt Law; 413 drivers-violators of the “No Plate, No Travel” rule; seven drivers of vehicles with expired commemorative plates; 181 drivers with unauthorized plates; 732 drivers with expired plate registration; 1,198 violators of the Helmet Law; and 191 motorcycle drivers found wearing unauthorized helmets.
