A WANTED car theft personality was arrested by agents of the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group in an entrapment operation last Tuesday in Pasay City.

PNP-HPG Officer-in-Charge, Brigadier General Eleazar P. Matta said the 47-year-old suspect had a warrant of arrest for violation of the anti-carnapping law issued by Judge Thelma Medina of the Manila City Regional Trial Court Branch 32 last December 12, 2024.

The court recommended a P300,000 bail for the temporary liberty of the accused who was reported to be involved in the so-called ‘Rent Tangay/Rent-Sangla’ modus operandi.

According to Brig. Gen. Matta, members of the HPG National Capital Region Unit, with the assistance of officers from the Southern Police District apprehended the suspect during a sting at a gasoline station on Macapagal Avenue in Pasay City at around 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

The operation was launched after the HPG received information that the suspect was about to sell a motor vehicle in the area.

Undercover officers who were dispatched to the scene arrested the suspect who offered no resistance after being shown a copy of the warrant of arrest issued against him.

A Nissan Caliber pickup with Conduction Sticker NH315A and a Toyota Vios, with CS GAI8127 were recovered during the operation and impounded at the HPG headquarters in Camp Crame.

Brig. Gen. Matta said the records of the two vehicles are being checked by his investigators with the Land Transportation Office.
