PNP detonates explosives in Tarlac

AROUND 164 kilograms of Unexploded Explosive Ordnances and improvised explosive devices on Tuesday were successfully disposed by bomb technicians from the Philippine National Police EOD/K-9 Group at the Crow Valley Gunnery Range in Capas, Tarlac.
PNP chief Gen. Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. watched the disposal of the deadly explosive materials supervised by EOD/K-9 director Brig. Gen. Albert G. Magno on Tuesday afternoon.
A total of 1,506 pieces of assorted UXOs, IEDs, Explosive Remnants of War or ERWs and other deadly explosive materials were set off during a controlled detonation by police bomb technicians during the disposal mission at Colonel Ernesto Ravina Airbase in Crow Valley.
Estimated to be weighing at least 164 kilograms or 362 pounds, those explosives were capable of inflicting severe injuries or death to hundreds of people if not disposed of through a series of controlled detonations, said Magno.
The official said that the UXOs, ERWs and IEDs were recovered in different law enforcement and public safety operations.
Magno said the presence of the menacing explosive materials, predominantly UXOs from World War II, posed an imminent threat to the surrounding community as they held the power to cause catastrophic harm or claim countless lives in the event of an accidental explosion.
Acorda witnessed the disposal activity as he emphasized the PNP’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and security of the Filipino people.
“This disposal goes beyond a mere routine; it symbolizes our unyielding dedication to protecting our people and our nation. We are determined to rid our land of the remnants of past conflicts and present threats. Let it serve as inspiration to continuously support, train, and equip our experts, providing them with the necessary resources to confront ever-evolving challenges,” he said.
