PNP-DEG seizes nearly P90M shabu, nabs 26 ‘HVTs’

AGENTS of the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) shortly before noon yesterday arrested three top targets in the country during a buy-bust operation in Valenzuela City which led to the seizure of 12 kilograms of shabu worth P81.6 million, PNP-DEG director, Brigadier General Randy Q. Peralta said.

In a report to PNP Officer-in-Charge, Lieutenant General Vicente D. Danao Jr., the official identified the arrested suspects as Algie Labenia, a driver from 9th Street, Barangay Amsic in Angeles City, Pampanga; Nolan Julia,43, a construction worker from 657 Apolonio Compound in Muntinlupa City; and Joseph Malagasa,50, a jobless resident of Bgy. Maligaya in Caloocan City.

“We have arrested three notorious big-time drug distributors in Metro Manila following weeks of surveillance. Right now, we are still conducting follow-up operations to identify and arrest the other cohorts of the three,” said the PNP-DEG director.

Brig. Gen. Peralta said the three were arrested at around 11:30 a.m. Sunday in a buy-bust operation conducted on Maysan Road corner Cecilio J. Santos Street.

Recovered from the three were 12 kilograms of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine,’ the buy-bust money topped by a marked P1,000 bill, two mobile phones they used in making contact with the poseur-buyer and assorted IDs and other documents.

A green Honda Civic with plate no. UFY-330 used by the trio to transport the drugs was impounded by the PNP-DG National Capital Region, Peralta said.

The official said they got full support from the NCR Police Office Regional Intelligence Division and Regional Drug Enforcement Unit under Major Gen. Felipe R. Natividad; the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency headed by Director General Wilkins M. Villanueva; the Northern Police District and Valenzuela City Police Station under Brig. Gen. Ulysses G. Cruz and the Bureau of Customs Intelligence Service in the conduct of the sting.

The Sunday sting in Valenzuela City came in the wake of a string of PNP-DEG anti-narcotics operations in the country since last Wednesday which netted 23 wanted drug personalities including 11 ‘high-value targets’ and over P6.2 million worth of shabu and marijuana.

Brig. Gen. Peralta said that five of the suspects who all belong to one family were arrested in a buy-bust operation in front of Block 31, Lot 21 Canon Street in Beverly Homes, Phase 1, Barangya Hugo Perez in Trece Martirez City in Cavite past 9 p.m. Saturday.

Brig. Gen. Peralta identified the suspects as Kadir Batao,26; Cosain Bangon,66; Hakim Batao,21; Mobarak Batao Jr.,22; and Mobarak Dida Batao,58.

Members of the DEG Special Operations Unit 4-A, with the help of the Trece Martirez City Police Station confiscated 300 grams of shabu worth P2.040 million, the buy-bust money topped by a marked P1,000 bill, three chamber-loaded caliber .45 semi-automatic pistols, three .45 magazines with 15 live ammunition, 10 metal boxes each containing 30 rounds of cal. 5.56mm bullets, four short steel magazines each loaded with 30 rounds of live 5.56 ammunition, a silencer and two digital weighing scales during the operation.

All five suspects are now undergoing questioning at the DEG SOU4-A office.

Another suspect identified as 35-year old Khominie Banto Oti was arrested inside his house in Purok 6 in Bgy. Nangka in Balo-I, Lanao del Norte which was raided by DEG SOU 10 operatives and the local police and Army past 4 a.m. Sunday.

Brig. Gen. Peralta said that officers stormed the suspect’s place on the strength of a search warrant for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2013 issued by Judge Silveste Orejana.

Recovered inside Oti’s residence were an estimated 27.5 grams of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ worth P187,000 and several drug paraphernalia including plastic sachets in different sizes.

Three other suspects identified as Jayson Falcon, a resident of Bgy. San Antonio, Quezon City; and Edwardy Sy,45; and Sarah Biscante,44, both residents of Bgy. Balon Bato, Teachers BLISS in Balintawak, Q.C. were arrested in a sting along McArthur Highway in Bgy. Bunlo, Bocaue, Bulacan around 9:20 p.m. last Wednesday, the official said.

The PNP-DEG director said that recovered from the possession of the suspects were an estimated 500 grams of shabu valued at P3.4 million and the buy-bust money topped by two marked P1,000 bills.

Brig. Gen. Peralta said that members of the DEG SOU 3 and the Intelligence and Foreign Liaison Division were assisted by operatives from the Q.C. Police District Drug Enforcement Unit under Brig. Gen. Remus B. Medina and the Bocaue Municipal Police Station in the conduct of the successful anti-narcotics operation.

All three suspects are now under the custody of the DEG SOU3.

The 10th suspect identified as Rudyfer Signo,31, a tricycle driver from Bgy. Perez in Dagupan City, Pangasinan was arrested after he sold 1.5 kilos of dried marijuana leaves to an undercover officer from the DEG SOU1 in Bued Zone 4 in Binalonan municipality 3:45 a.m. last Thursday, said Peralta.

The suspect also yielded the boodle money topped by a marked P500 bill. Brig. Gen. Peralta said that the Binalonan Municipal Police Station supported them in the conduct of the buy-bust operation in Binalonan.

He also gave full credit to the assistance they are getting from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency headed by Director General Wilkins M. Villanueva.

The 11th suspect identified as Mariabel Canlas alias ‘Bel,’ a 46-year old ‘HVT’ from Purok Sigay in Barangay 2, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental was placed under arrest after she sold drugs to an undercover officer of the PNP-DEG Special Operations Unit 6 around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Recovered from the possession of the suspect were around 55 grams of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ with a market value of P374,000 and the buy-bust money topped by a marked P1,000 bill.

Brig. Gen. Peralta said that his men were assisted by the Bacolod City Police Station 2 in the conduct of the operation.

The other suspects were arrested in a series of manhunt operations conducted by different PNP-DEG operating units, the official said.

“This is part of our ongoing effort to account for all wanted drug personalities upon the instruction of Lt. Gen. Danao,” said Peralta.

He identified them as Rebudem Lompon,34, of Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon; Julius dela Cruz, a 32-year old resident of Bgy. Dionisio Garcia in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija;

Roosevelt Vendiola, a resident of Sitio Tangke in Bgy. Castañas, Sariaya;

Morrison Altamera,34, a resident of Malacañang Santa Rosa, Nueva Ecija; Luis Permiso, a 52-year old resident of Aquino Street in Bgy. 3, Sangandaan, Caloocan City;

Romeo Lastimado,44, a resident of Magugpo East, Tagum City ;Nichole Romey,24, a resident of Bgy. Lizada in Torio, Davao City; Ray Allian Plaza,41;James Lijauco,40; Roberto Torres Jr.,45; Irene Flores,42; and Mary Jean Dy,42. By ALFRED DALIZON
