OFFICERS and men of the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) were found to be all drug-free after being subjected to a surprise drug test as part of the unit’s effort to ensure that all of them are free from illegal drugs, the Journal Group learned yesterday.

PNP-DEG director, Brigadier General Remus B. Medina said that the surprise drug test was as PNP Director for Intelligence, Major Gen. Dennis P. Agustin visited their office at Camp Crame.

“All were tested negative for any illegal substance. This is in line with the thrust of PNP chief, General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar to ensure that all of us are free from illegal drugs as part of our internal cleansing program,” said the PNP-DEG director.

Members of the PNP Crime Laboratory’s Drug Testing Section subjected all personnel of the PN-DEG Command Group, Legal and Investigation Division, Intelligence and Foreign Liaison Division, Station Health Unit, Plans and Operations Division Demand Reduction and Education, Administrative Resource and Management Division and DEG Non-Uniformed Personnel to a drug test on that afternoon.

Medina said they are continuously monitoring and checking their personnel for any drug-related issues and concerns amid their own internal cleansing drive.

During his visit, Agustin commended the PNP-DEG for its successful “high-impact” operations since last April leading to the neutralization of dozens of major drug personalities including some foreigners and the confiscation of billions of pesos worth of shabu and marijuana.
