PNP-DEG nabs 8 suspects, seizes P7M illegal drugs
PHILIPPINE National Police Drug Enforcement Group director Colonel Dionisio B. Bartolome Jr. on Sunday announced the arrest of eight top drug suspects in anti-narcotics operations.
Nearly P7 million worth of shabu and marijuana were recovered in the operations.
In a report to PNP chief General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr., the official said that two of the suspects, identified as James Regonay, 50; and Dante Cleofe, 48, were arrested in Summitville in Barangay Putatan, Muntinlupa City at around 7:30 p.m. last Friday.
Members of the PDEG Special Operations Unit 3 led the conduct of the entrapment operation which resulted in the confiscation of some 525 grams of shabu worth P3.750 million.
Two other suspects engaged in marijuana trafficking were also arrested on the same day by members of the PDEG during a sting in San Jose del Monte City in Bulacan which yielded around P2.9 million worth of dried marijuana bricks.
Arrested during the operation were Carlo Gonzales, 24; and Melanie Mañalac, 38.
Bartolome said that with the help of officers from the San Jose del Monte City Police Station, members of the PDEG-SOU 3 arrested the duo who yielded 24 kilograms of dried marijuana bricks valued at P2.880 million and the buy-bust money topped by a marked P1,000 bill.
The PDEG director said the 5th suspect, Gilbert Abunagan, 50, was arrested in an entrapment operation in Bgy. Maura in Aparri, Cagayan last Thursday.
The suspect yielded 15 grams of shabu worth P102,000 and the P55,000 worth of buy-bust money.
Alwalied Hassan, 20, was the sixth arrested suspect. He yielded the same amount of shabu during a sting in Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay on Friday.
Ismael Dunngan, 43, was arrested in an anti-illegal drug search in the same Zamboanga Sibugay municipality also last Friday. Confiscated from him were 25 grams of shabu worth P170,000 and a 9mm Luger sub-machine gun with 54 live ammunition and various drug paraphernalia.
Bartolome said that an 8th suspect identified as Richard dela Cruz, 38, yielded 50 grams of shabu valued at P340,000 during a sting in Albuera, Leyte last Thursday.
