MORE than 99 percent of the 222,000-strong police force are now vaccinated with the remainder still being convinced by the Philippine National Police leadership to get inoculated against the deadly COVID-19 virus, PNP chief General Dionardo B. Carlos said yesterday.

Citing reports from the PNP Health Service headed by Brigadier Gen. Antonino R. Cirujales, the top cop revealed that from 1,004, only 965 or 0.43 percent of the total PNP population remain unvaccinated without offering any legitimate justification as of yesterday.

Meanwhile, 865 PNP personnel also remain unvaccinated due to valid reasons, mostly allergic reaction, and medical condition.

“Slowly, we are seeing that there is a narrowing of the gap between those vaccinated and unvaccinated personnel. We hope to convince every member of the more than 222,000 PNP force to be vaccinated to protect themselves and their family from the virus threat,” said Gen. Carlos.

Aside from the benefits of the vaccine, the PNP would also like to avoid the eventuality of prohibiting their unvaccinated personnel from reporting to duty in accord with the IATF resolution on the ‘no vax, no work rule.’

Last week, booster shots were administered to some personnel who are directly involved in the medical frontline.
