PNP cites campaign vs criminality in ’23
THE Philippine National Police (PNP) cited its successful crackdown against criminal gangs in 2023.
Last year, the PNP conducted a total of 1,104 operations from January 1 to December 1 resulting in the neutralization of 389 organized crime gangs.
The operations led to the arrest of 1,374 suspects, 22 killed in clashes, 172 surrendered and 219 illegal firearms confiscated.
According to PNP Director for Operations Major Gen. Leo M. Francisco, their records also showed that 385 criminal charges were also filed against the arrested suspects.
Records showed total crime volume went down by more than eight percent last year.
A PNP Operational Accomplishment Report from January to November 2023 said that amid its commitment to ensure public safety amid threats posed by criminals, terrorists and other lawless elements, police conducted nearly 200,000 foot/beat patrol operations with 360,927,436 man-hours utilized.
The PNP said aggressive police operations and police interventions also led to the arrest of criminals that helped reduce crimes.
Records showed that the PNP played a major role in the successful campaign against illegal drugs by sending 56,495 targets to jail and accounting for more than P10.412 billion worth of shabu and other illegal substances.
The report painted an impressive picture of the efforts made by the PNP as it showcased an 8.24 percent decrease in Index Crime Volume and an overall 8.18 percent reduction in focus crimes such as murder, robbery, theft, rape, physical injury and carnapping.
“These astounding figures serve as undeniable proof of the effectiveness of the PNP’s law enforcement initiatives,” said PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr.
The top cop emphasized the importance of these results, saying “these promising outcomes stand as a clear testament to the tireless and coordinated efforts of the Philippine National Police.”
“Contrary to popular narratives, the statistics undeniably demonstrate a noteworthy decline in the overall crime rate during the 10 months of 2023.
This success reflects the PNP’s commitment to ‘Serbisyong Nagkakaisa’ and our unwavering vow to suppress criminal activities and ensure the safety and security of our communities,” he said.
Acorda said these accomplishments underscored the unwavering dedication of the force to uphold peace and order, extending well before the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.
The PNP chief also said they have effectively implemented a range of strategic actions that have yielded impressive results in curbing criminal activities.
