PNP-CIDG leads serving of warrants vs 9 ex-NPA rebels

MEMBERS of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) have served warrants of arrest issued against nine ex-members of the New People’s Army who have surrendered to the Philippine Army to allow them to return to the mainstream of the society, PNP-CIDG director, Major General Albert Ignatius D. Ferro said on Sunday.

The nine are under the custody of the Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion stationed in Zamboanga del Sur, the official said.

Ferro said three of the accused identified as Anselma Quijano,32; Genesis Quijano,28; and Rithzel Solatorio,29, are the subjects of a warrant of arrest for multiple frustrated homicide issued by Judge Felix Rodriguez of the Pagadian City Regional Trial Court Branch 18 in Zamboanga del Sur.

The 4th identified as Suray Manlapang, 37, is wanted for two counts of attempted murder and simple arson issued by Judge Analyn Constanilla of the Aurora RTC Branch 30; two counts of attempted murder, theft and murder issued by Judge Romeo Escallar of the Pagadian City RTC Branch 19; and malicious mischief issued by Judge Pacifico Cimafranca Jr. of the Dumalinao 8th Municipal Circuit Trial Court.

The 5th identified as Rogene Maghinay,32, is the subject of a warrant of arrest for attempted murder, theft and murder issued by Judge Descallar and another warrant for malicious mischief issued by Judge Cimafranca.

The 6th identified as Unjie Boy Robledo, 24, is the subject of a warrant for two counts of murder issued by Judge Ruben Bance of the San Miguel RTC Branch 29 and a warrant for attempted homicide issued by Judge Crislyn Sancho of the Mahayag-Dumingag-Josefina MCTC.

Another identified as Jay-ar Enlab,22, is the subject of a warrant for murder issued by Judge Jaime Caberte of the Molave RTC Branch 23 while Noel Hintapan,33 is wanted for three counts of attempted murder. His arrest was ordered by Judge Analyn Ramas-Costanilla of the Molave RTC Branch 23.

The 9th identified as Mariano Baron,51, is the subject of a warrant of arrest for murder issued by Judge Bance.

According to Maj. Gen. Ferro, the nine were former NPA members who returned to the fols of the law thru the efforts of the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.

He said that the warrants issued against the nine will be returned to the courts of origin on Tuesday.

Ferro said that although the nine have yielded to the government, they still have to face their charges in court. “As mandated by law, we have the duty to enforce the law to those who violate or break it. “Sila po ay nagkasala sa batas kaya po kailangan rin nilang panagutan ang kanilang nagawa,” Ferro said
