A TOTAL of 1,177 most wanted persons were arrested by agents of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group as a result of their intensified anti-criminality drive last January, PNP-CIDG director Brigadier General Nicolas D. Torre III said on Monday.

“This is part of our continued support to the peace and security thrust of PNP chief General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil in preparation for the safe and peaceful conduct of the May 12 national and local elections,” the official said.

Brig. Gen. Torre said last month saw PNP-CIDG units conducting a total of 1,078 anti-crime operations which led in the arrest of 1,177 wanted persons and the confiscation of 139 illegal firearms, 6 explosives, 1,311 rounds of assorted live ammunition and other pieces of evidence valued at nearly P97.3 million.

He said a total of 149 criminal complaints were also filed against the accused before the National Prosecution Service.

Brig. Gen. Torre said their January operations focused on the apprehension of wanted persons; accounting and confiscation of loose firearms and explosives; arrest of criminal gang leaders and members; illegal gambling, environmental crimes, smuggling, counterfeiting and illegal liquefied petroleum gas or LPG manufacturing.

“It is important that we account and confiscate all loose firearms so that these will not be used as instruments of crime for the incoming election,” said the official.

He also lauded the commitment and dedication of CIDG operatives and detectives in their relentless effort in fighting all forms of criminality nationwide and in the conduct of in-depth investigation in all incidents and crimes across the country.

“Rest assured that your CIDG will be aggressive in fighting all forms of criminality and continue to seek the truth to put all criminals behind bars and help victims in their pursuit for justice through the conduct of Responsive, Flexible, Dependable and Modern Investigation,” Brig. Gen. Torre said.
