PNP-CIDG agents nab 37 lawbreakers

THIRTY-SEVEN lawbreakers, 33 of them wanted for various criminal offenses were hauled to jail by operatives of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) in separate anti-criminality operations in the countryside last Thursday, PNP-CIDG director, Brigadier General Ronald O. Lee told the Journal Group.

“This is part of our stepped up efforts to account for most wanted criminals and other law offenders in the country as ordered by PNP chief, General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr.,” the official said.

Lee said 33 of the suspects were arrested in the wake of their stepped-up enforcement of the CIDG Oplan: Pagtugis.

He added that one of the 33 identified as Marlon Baguio, tagged as the no. 2 most wanted person in Caraga region was arrested in his residence in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur on the strength of non-bailable warrant of arrest for rape and violation of the anti-child abuse law issued by Judge Ambrosio Moleta of the Trento, Agusan del Sur Regional Trial Court Branch 55 last February 22.

The suspect is also the subject of another non-bailable warrant for rape issued by Judge Den Ryan Cagas of the Trento RTC Branch 55 last June 14, the PNP-CIDG chief said.

Others who were arrested include two Provincial Most Wanted Persons or MWPs, 1 Municipal MWP and 20 Other Wanted Persons, he added.

Two of them are Jason Cortes, the 8th most wanted person in Surigao del Sur and Alfie Manalon, the no. 1 most wanted man in San Agustin, Romblon.

Cortes is the subject of a non-bailable warrant of arrest for rape in relation to Republic Act 7610 or the anti-child abuse law issued by Judge Merlyn Pacaro-Cañedo of the Bislig City RTC Branch 29 on May 7, 2019.

On the other hand, Manalon, wanted for two counts of rape turned himself to the CIDG Romblon Provincial Field Unit and was immediately placed under bars. The suspect was listed as Romblon’s 2nd most wanted man and Mimaropa region’s Top 9 MWP.

Lee said four other suspects were arrested for illegal possession of firearms and explosive on Thursday.

Two of the suspects identified as Heraclio Provido Sr. and Rolando Arellano were arrested in a sting in Ledesco Avenue in Lapaz, Iloilo City. Seized from their possession were one M-16 automatic rifle, two 9mm semi-automatic pistols, a al. .380 pistol, 50 various live ammunition and the buy-bust money topped by some marked bills.

Another suspect identified as Ronald Cancelo yielded a cal. .45 pistol with 21 ammunition during an operation in Bgy. San Agustin in Isabela, Negros Occidental while the 4th identified as Mekhail Khalil Tadifa was arrested in Bgy. 11 in San Miguel, Iloilo for possession of a cal. .45 pistol, a fragmentation grenade, seven empty plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, assorted drug paraphernalia, 12 different live ammunition and six empty cartridges.

Provido, Arellano and Cancelo are now facing charges for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition while Tadifa will be facing non-bailable offenses for illegal possession of firearms and explosive, Lee said.
