FINALLY displaying the form that made itself as one of the pre-tournament favorites PLDT Home Fibr made quick work of BaliPure, 25-20, 26-24, 25-22, to secure the No. 3 quarterfinals ranking in Pool B of the PVL Open Conference yesterday at the Paco Arena.

Mika Reyes played her best game for the High Speed Hitters with three blocks to finish with 11 points.

Finishing a disappointing third with a 1-2 record in Pool B despite an upgraded roster from the previous conference, PLDT will face the second-best club in Pool A in this Sunday’s quarters.

“Sabi ko laruin nila kung ano yung ine-ensayo namin and at the same time alam naman namin na very short yung preparation namin pero siyempre hindi reason yun para hindi ka mag perform hindi ba so iyun lang ang lagi kong sinasabi sa kanila,” said High Speed Hitters head coach George Pascua.

Choco Mucho and F2 Logistics, both tied at 2-1, dispute the No. 2 ranking in their group at 6 p.m. today. The winner will also assure itself of the twice-to-beat bonus.

Regardless of the result of the 3 p.m. duel with also-ran Black Mamba-Army, undefeated Cignal HD (3-0) is already assured of the top ranking in Pool A.

The HD Spikers will play the Water Defenders, who went winless in three pool matches, in the quarters.

Chin-Chin Basas scored all but one of her eight points from spikes and collected 10 digs, while Dell Palomata also tallied eight points for PLDT.

Fiola Ceballos added seven points and seven receptions while Jules Samonte also scored seven points for the High Speed Hitters.

Janine Marciano led BaliPure with 13 points while Jho Maraguinot added 10 points, including two service aces, and 12 digs.

Creamline and PetroGazz, both assured of twice-to-beat incentives in the quarters, were disputing the No. 1 ranking in Pool B, where the winner will take on defending champion Chery Tiggo.

The loser of the Cool Smashers-Angels match, which is being played as of presstime, will play either the Flying Titans or the Cargo Movers in the quarterfinals.
