Infact, a foreign leader recently recognized these admirable traits of Filipinos.

Dubai Ruler and United Arab Emirates (UAE) Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum commended the Filipino community for their invaluable contributions to Emirati society.

He described Filipinos as possessing “civil and gentle” qualities deeply appreciated during President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s working visit to UAE on November 26.

President Marcos thanked the UAE for its acceptance and hospitality toward Filipinos, noting the warm reception fostered a deep personal bond between the Philippines and UAE.

During their discussion on regional stability, President Marcos assured Sheik Mohammed of the Philippines’ commitment to resolving maritime issues through the rule of law and adherence to international agreements, such as the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

He also highlighted the government’s unwavering efforts to maintain peace and economic stability, which Sheikh Mohammed praised as a foundation for strengthening trade and investment ties between the two nations.

President Marcos emphasized his administration’s agenda, including streamlining regulations and enhancing ease of doing business.

He shared how Dubai’s success in diversifying its economy beyond oil served as inspiration, particularly its focus on services and tourism as key growth drivers.

President Marcos underscored the mutual respect and cooperation that have long defined the Philippines – UAE partnership, particularly in the UAE’s fair treatment of Filipino nationals.

The President reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to nurturing its relationship with the UAE and exploring new avenues for collaboration, including trade, tourism and cultural exchange.

Sheikh Mohammed hoped that President Marcos’ visit would mark the beginning of a new chapter in the two countries’ bilateral relations.

He reiterated the UAE’s eagerness to work closely with the Philippines to achieve shared goals in economic development, innovation ,and sustainability.

The President has just returned with several bilateral agreements following his “short but highly productive” working visit to UAE.

He expressed optimism about the successful implementation of the agreements with the UAE in the Philippines.

“I look forward to the implementation of several bilateral agreements in culture, energy transition, legal cooperation, artificial intelligence and digital economy, the improvement of government activities, visa waiver for holders of diplomatic, special, and official passports, and investment cooperation,” President Marcos said.

The President’s one-day working visit to the UAE coincided with the 50th anniversary of “very strong and friendly, and rapidly progressing” diplomatic relations between the Philippines and the UAE, which were established on August 19, 1974.

During his visit, President Marcos reaffirmed the Philippine government’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding into new areas of engagement.

He recalled his productive meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, highlighting mutual respect and collaboration.

“I expressed the appreciation of the Philippines for UAE government’s care and respect for the Filipino community in the UAE. In response, the UAE President commended the Filipino people for their contributions towards UAE’s development,” President Marcos said.

President Marcos also expressed his gratitude to President Sheikh Al Nahyan for his understanding on the shortened visit, as the President needed to oversee relief and reconstruction efforts in typhoon-affected communities in the Philippines.

He also thanked the UAE government for its constant humanitarian support for the victims.

The President extended an invitation to Sheikh Mohamed to return to the Philippines to continue their dialogue and to explore additional areas of cooperation.
