Pinoys fireproof; wildfires no match–DFA
NO Filipinos have been affected by the wildfires in Maui, Hawaii, an official of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) claimed.
Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega, during the “Laging Handa” briefing, said “walang foreign nationals na reported affected, kasama ang mga Pilipino.”
He explained that Filipinos work in main cities but stressed they are monitoring the situation.
“We’re monitoring the situation. Ang magandang balita, walang affected na Pilipino so far,” he stressed.
At least 55 people have been killed and a number of properties were destroyed when wildfires razed the town of Lahaina on Tuesday.
Authorities said the casualties are expected to rise further as about 1,000 more residents are still unaccounted for.
