Phoenix rises
PHOENIX Super LPG is back on the winning track.
Phoenix defeated winless Terrafirma Dyip, 122-108, to keep its flickering hopes alive in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
Five players led by import Donovan Smith, scored in double figures for the Jamike Jarin-mentored Fuel Masters, who notched their second win in seven matches.
Smith finished with 37 points shooting 13-of-26 from the field, seven rebounds and five blocks in 40 minutes of play.
Jason Perkins added 16 points on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting from the field in 23 minutes of action while Ricci Rivero contributed 14 points and five assists in the Fuel Masters’ victory.
Tyler Tio and Kai Ballungay chipped in with 10 points each.
Brandon Edwards and Louie Sangalang led the losing effort for the Dyip, who remained winless after eight games.
Edwards tallied 25 points on 10-of-13 shooting and 10 rebounds in 45 minutes of playing while Sangalang added 22 points and six rebounds.
Brent Paraiso had 16 points, five rebounds and five assists while Mark Nonoy and Kemark Carino chipped in with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Meawnhile, NorthPort returns after a long, 19-day break to meet Barangay Ginebra in another explosive match at 7:30 p.m.
The match against Ginebra is actually the start of a tough stretch for Kadeem Jack and his Batang Pier teammates where they play heavyweights in the Gin Kings, the Meralco Bolts, the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and the San Miguel Beermen.
The Batang Pier are currently sitting pretty through the first half of the elims, sporting a 6-1 win-loss card with a lone loss suffered at the hands of the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters.
In their most recent outing, the Batang Pier smothered Hong Kong Eastern, 120-113.
