CNN Philippines — Russian vaccine maker Gamaleya Institute has been granted emergency use authorization (EUA) for its single-dose COVID-19 vaccine, vaccine czar Carlito Galvez, Jr. announced on Monday.

Food and Drug Administration Director General Eric Domingo also confirmed in a text message to CNN Philippines that the EUA application for Sputnik Light was approved last Friday.

Russia authorized the use of Sputnik Light in May. The vaccine requires 2 to 8 degrees Celsius for storage and the Russian Direct Investment Fund said it has 79.4% efficacy.

The Philippines has so far approved only one single-dose COVID-19 vaccine, Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine.

Among the vaccine brands being administered in the country include Sinovac, Sputnik V, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, and Janssen.
