THE regional ports of the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) have been able to deliver 48,096 metric tons (MT) of much-needed fish supply to all consumers nationwide despite the three tropical depressions and one “super” typhoon that hit the country.

According to the PFDA, some of the major fish ports still came out with high numbers of catches to complement the losses of other regions affected by the weather disturbances.

It cited the General Santos Fish Ports Complex (GSFPC), which bounced back from last month’s dip with a delivery of 23,034 MT of fish or a 4.32% increase.

And with the reopening of fishing season in the Davao Gulf, PFDA-Davao Fish Port Complex reported an almost tripled monthly unloading volume to 2,393.83 MT, or a high 193.89% increase.

Moreover, both the PFDA-Zamboanga Fish Port Complex (PFDA-ZFPC) and PFDA-Sual Fish Port (PFDA-SFP) also got a graceful recovery following last month’s slip with the unloading of 560.28 MT (12.8% increase) and 422.03 MT (36.25% increase), respectively.

Likewise, the PFDA-Iloilo Fish Port Complex (PFDA-IFPC) also managed to get back into its fishing form from a previous slump despite heavy rains brought by several weather disturbances after recording 2,073.47 MT of fish, a 5.3% increase.

Those ports have eventually covered the setbacks suffered by the PFDA-Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) in its monthly unloading volume due to severe weather conditions, although somehow, it was still able to unload 16,702.629 MT.

The Lucena Fish Port Complex and the Bulan Fish Port Complex have both experienced a decline in their monthly unloading, although they delivered 2,162.88 MT and 746.87 MT of fish, respectively, which the PFDA said was “understandable” because of the dangers posed by the month-long strong winds and heavy rains to fishing vessels and port activities.
