WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ambassador Jose Manuel G. Romualdez hosted a luncheon for participants in the 2023 Conference on Public Safety and Peace Nexus organized by the Regional Peace and Order Council-National Capital Region (RPOC-NCR) in collaboration with the De La Salle University-College of Saint Benilde (DLSU-CSB), and the Washington College for Leadership, Communication and Good Governance Inc. on March 20, 2023.

The RPOC-NCR’s purpose is to strengthen peace and order, and coordination of public safety operations between national government agencies and local government units (LGUs) within specified areas – in this case, the National Capital Region.

Amb. Romualdez advised the delegates that “…as our national defense team gears up its modernization and rationalization efforts related to Philippine defense and security, it is also critical to stay up-to-date on security issues that help formulate better public policies and governance frameworks to address both external and internal threats against the Philippines’ peace and development.”

Participants were given the opportunity to discuss and learn from key agencies of their best practices and latest initiatives on public security, disaster risk reduction and management, cyber security, leadership on local policing, and immigration and customs in the US (United States).

The delegation was composed of officials from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and LGUs from various cities in Metro Manila.

DILG Undersecretaries Marlo Iringan and Oscar Valenzuela, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Acting Chairperson Romando Artes, and Mayors Francisco Javier Zamora of San Juan City, Dale Gonzalo Malapitan of Caloocan City, Jeannie Sandoval of Malabon City, John Reynald Tiangco of Navotas, and Weslie Gatchalian of Valenzuela were among the conference participants.

Mayor Zamora currently chairs the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) of Metro Manila.
