JUSTICE Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla recently v0isited the Eurojust headquarters in The Hague as part of the Department of Justice’s efforts to enhance collaboration with European counterparts.

Remulla and the Philippine delegation received a warm welcome from Eurojust president Ladislav Hamran.

“This significant meeting with Eurojust opens avenues for exchanging information and sharing best practices at an institutional and policy level. It also promotes closer coordination among our agencies in investigating and prosecuting specific transnational crimes,” stated Remulla.

Eurojust tweeted: “Organized crime knows no borders – and neither do we! We warmly welcomed Jesus Crispin Remulla, Secretary of Justice of the Republic of the Philippines, to #Eurojust.

Thank you for your visit and your interest in our work! @DOJPH.”

Accompanying Remulla, Philippine Ambassador to The Netherlands Eduardo Malaya regarded the visit as “an invaluable opportunity to explore cooperation against cross-border crimes, particularly online sexual exploitation of children. Protecting children is a priority for both sides, and we are prepared to work closely together.”

Jose de la Mata, chair for the Board on Relations with Partners at Eurojust, provided the Philippine delegation with an overview of Eurojust’s global partnerships. Both parties agreed to establish cooperative working arrangements between their respective agencies.

In the meeting, Ambassador Malaya presented Eurojust with his book “Philippine Treaties in Force 2020,” a comprehensive index of international agreements entered into by the Philippines from 1946 to 2020. The book, published by the University of the Philippines Law Center, aims to facilitate a deeper understanding of the country’s legal framework.

Remulla was accompanied by several officials including Undersecretary for International and Legal Cluster Raul Vasquez, Undersecretary for Law Enforcement Cluster Jesse Andres, Undersecretary for Immigration and Public Attorney’s Office Jose Cadiz, Jr., NBI director Medardo De Lemos, Senior Deputy State Prosecutor Hazel Decena-Valdez, Supervising Agent Chief Filipinas Astrero (International Operations Division), and Chief Marie Catherine Nolasco (Anti-Human Trafficking Division).
