PH education
THE government, through the two-chamber Congress, continues to craft far-reaching pieces of legislation aimed at addressing gaps in the Philippine education system.
Playing a stellar role in all-out efforts to improve the quality of the nation’s education system is the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM II).
Composed of five senators and five congressmen, EDCOM II is a national commission.
EDCOM II undertakes a comprehensive national assessment and evaluation of the performance of the country’s education sector.
Education Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara has reaffirmed his commitment to working with EDCOM II, where he was once a commissioner.
Angara acknowledged EDCOM’s role in driving education reforms and expressed gratitude to Congress for enacting laws recommended by the commission.
A former senator, Angara noted that 37 priority education bills are in the legislative pipeline, with five already signed into law.
Among the new laws are the “Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program Act and the Basic Education Mental Health and Well-Being Promotion Act.
As DepEd secretary, Angara has been implementing reforms aligned with President Marcos’ directives and EDCOM’s findings.
We are all for these education reforms.
