THE government deserves the suport of all sectors of society as it exerts its best efforts to improve the quality of Philippine education.

In the view of many quarters, we cannot overemphasize the importance of the nation producing highly-qualified professionals.

Note that the Philippines is one of the world’s major exporters of workers.

“Kaya nga dapat kailangang highly-qualified ang ating mga manggagawa. Baka mapag-iwanan tayo ng ibang bansa,” said an ex-overseas Filipino worker (OFW).

That’s why we should help our elementary and high school teachers in developing outstanding students to enable them to pursue college education.

Hopefully, the Department of Education (DepEd) succeeds in filling up more than 40,000 vacant positions in our public schools.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara told his officials to “exhaust all measures to expedite the hiring of teachers and non-teaching personnel.

“Kailangang mag-hire ng non-teaching personnel para makapag-concenrate ang mga guro sa pagtuturo sa mga bata,” said a lady mentor.

Today, public school teachers are forced to perform administrative functions because of the lack of school personnel.

Hiring more non-teaching men and women is a move in the direction as part of government efforts to improve the quality of Philippine education.
