BIÑAN CITY, Laguna – Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) vice presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on Friday said the country can rise above the challenges brought by the coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic and the seemingly unending battle against poverty, and security threats.

Addressing thousands of supporters in a series of campaign sorties in the province, Duterte said the achievements of Davao City during her 1 term as vice mayor and 3 terms as mayor are doable for the entire country.

“Nagagawa po yan ng mga taga-Davao, kaya po yan ng Pilipinas. Dahan-dahan po, tuloy-tuloy na kaunlaran para sa ating bansa,” Duterte said, referring to the city’s citations as the 4th most competitive city in the country, 8th richest, and debt-free from more than P1 billion liabilities in 2016.

Unity and peaceful life for Filipinos, she added, are the core advocacies of her vice-presidential bid.

Julieta Mendoza, 44, a housewife, said she looks forward to Mayor Duterte’s vice presidency given the milestones that Davao City has achieved.

“Lahat ng adhikain niya, yun ang gustong-gusto ko sa kanya. Nakikita ko ang pagkakaisa nila dahil, hindi hati-hati ang opinion nila,” Mendoza said. “May mapayapang pag-iisip siya at makikita mo sa kanya yung paninindigan. Go lang, ma’am. Hindi ka namin iiwan.”

Jayson Cartagena, 38, construction worker and tricycle driver, said he hopes non-Dabawenyos will get to experience Mayor Sara’s kind of governance.

“Ako po ay supporter ni Mayor Inday. Maayos yung mga programa niya para sa mga tao gaya ng mga trabaho,” he added.

The campaign rallies at the Laguna provincial capitol grounds and Sta. Rosa Sports Complex were attended by UniTeam members.

Laguna is a vote-rich province with 1.9 million registered voters as of 2019.
