Active cases breach 100,000

CNN Philippines -– The country marked another two grim milestones on Sunday on its fight against COVID-19.

The record for the second highest number of new COVID-19 cases reported in a day was again broke with 14,749, which beat Saturday’s count of 14,249 infections.

The number of active cases breached the 100,000 mark with 102,748, or 5.9% of the total 1,741,616 cases nationwide.

At least 95.9% of the active cases have mild symptoms, 1.3% have severe symptoms, 1.1% are asymptomatic, 0.93% are in moderate condition, and 0.8% are in critical condition.

The highest single-day tally was 15,310 last April 2, and the third highest was 13,177, which was recorded just this Friday.

The death toll also climbed to 30,340 – which is 1.74% of the case total – after 270 more people lost their lives to the disease. Meanwhile, 10,720 other patients got better, raising the recovery count to 1,608,528 or 92.4% of the COVID-19 tally.

The DOH said it deleted 364 duplicate cases, where 360 of them are recoveries. The agency added that it reclassified 146 cases previously tagged as recoveries five of them have been validated to be active cases while the remaining 141 reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The total excludes data from three laboratories that failed to submit their reports on time, the DOH said. These laboratories contributed an average of 0.9% of samples tested and 1.1% of positive individuals in the last 14 days, the agency added.
