PetroGazz gets job done vs Capital1

PETROGAZZ got the job done as it secured a place in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference quarterfinals with a 25-19, 25-23, 25-21 romp of 11th-ranked Capital1 yesterday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
The Angels, the second-best team in the preliminaries who have won 10 in a row, faced stiff resistance from the upset-seeking Solar Spikers before prevailing.
In the quarters, PetroGazz will play the Pool A winner in the play-in tournament, as it joined defending champion Creamline and surprise qualifier Galeries Tower.
Brooke Van Sickle led the Angels with 19 points on 15-of-40 kills, two blocks and two service aces, 14 receptions and nine digs, while Myla Pablo hammered 15-of-32 attacks to finish with 17 points. MJ Phillips scored 12 points, including a match-best five blocks.
“This is for the team – I need to play the way I’m supposed to. But I’m grateful to the coaches and my teammates for their trust,” said Pablo, who struggled early in the tournament but gradually regained her rhythm, emerging as one of PetroGazz’s most reliable scorers.
“I know I’ve been through a lot, but I also know I can get back to the player I used to be. I’m just really thankful to everyone who continues to believe in me,” she added.
Capital1, meanwhile, will battle for the final two quarterfinal slots in the play-in, where Nxled and Cignal were earlier relegated.
Leila Cruz logged 16 points while Jorelle Singh tallied 10 kills for the Solar Spikers.
