PERLAS hammered out a 25-20, 25-20, 25-22, 25-21 victory over Cignal HD to enter the win column yesterday in the PVL Open Conference at the PCV Socio-Civic & Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.

Playing on their second back-to-back set to catch up from the rest of the field after entering health and safety protocols at the start of the bubble tournament, the Perlas Spikers finally figured out to win games.

Perlas improved to 1-2 heading into today’s 4 p.m. showdown with PetroGazz.

Collecting his first club victory, coach Rei Diaz was satisfied the way the Perlas Spikers performed to the level that he wanted.

“Sobrang laki kasi yung opportunity nabigyan namin ng hustisya. Tapos ang isa pa naming kailangan kasi yung kumpiyansa so yung panalo malaking kumpiyansa ang mabibigay individually.

Sobrang salamat,” said Diaz.

Nicole Tiamzon, Heather Guino-o and Cherry Nunag each scored 13 points while Sue Roces was the other Perlas player in double digits with 11 points.

Gel Cayuna played her best game this season, as the former Far Eastern University playmaker scored four of the Perlas Spikers’ nine service aces and tossed in 24 excellent sets.

Tiamzon, who along with Roces and skipper Jem Ferrer were the only remaining Perlas pioneers, was happy that Perlas finally got over the hump.

“Sabi ni coach (Rei), finally na-gain na din naming confidence dapat na meron kami ngayon. Pag wala kami kumpiyansa di ba sayang din games, iilan na lang,” said Tiamzon.

“As much as possible we have this kind of opportunity, we really wanted to play and we really want to give it our best. We’ll create a momentum from this,” he added.

Janine Marciano led the HD Spikers with 12 points, Norielle Ipac had four blocks for an 11-point effort while Roselyn Doria chipped in 10 points.

Cignal HD stumbled to its fifth defeat in six matches at the near bottom of the standings.
