People’s medical needs

DESPITE lack of healthcare workers in many hospitals and other medical facilities, the government is doing everything to meet the health needs of the Filipino people.

In fact, the people now support the deployment of medical personnel from the security forces to augment the workforce in government and private medical institutions.

No less than vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. assured the public that the authorities are doing everything to address the rising number of health workers that are getting sick.

The government, he said, has been tapping the services of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police Police, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and Philippine Coast Guard.

Note that these government agencies have their own pool of highly-trained medical professionals, like nurses, medical doctors, midwives and medical technologists.

Around 6,600 healthcare workers in the Metropolitan Manila area, or 7.2 percent of the region’s personnel, are under quarantine because of exposure to the virus.

Admittedly, the alarming situation is really a big challege since many of our health workers are getting sick themselves while the COVID-19 continues to infect more people.

However, it is really reassuring to know that the government is not panicking.

And there’s no reason to flash the alarm signals since concerned government offices and agencies have been continuously looking for ways to address the problems.

What’s needed is for the people to just strictly follow government-decreed health and safety protocols, like social distancing, wearing of masks and regular handwashing.

Huwag na huwag tayong laging pasaway.
