‘Peddler’ of child porn charged in Cebu
FORMAL charges have been filed against a suspected pedder of child pornography following his arrest by operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation-Anti-Human Trafficking Division (NBI-AHTRAD) in Cebu City.
Charged with violation of Section 5(b) of Republic Act No. 9208 as amended by RA 11862 and RA 9775 otherwise known as “Anti-Child Pornography Act of 2009 in relation to RA 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 before the Cebu Prosecutor’s Office was Romilo Romero.
Romero was arrested in an entrapment operation that stemmed from information relayed by the Department of Justice Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking – Cyber-TIP Monitoring Center (DOJ IACAT-NBI CYBERTIP).
The council claimed that the suspect who was using the Twitter account @MarkjasonCj was promoting and selling videos of sexual acts on male victims, some of whom are minors.
NBI-AHTRAD conducted a cyber surveillance operation and confirmed that Romero was engaged in child pornography.
Armed with a Warrant to Search, Seize, and Examine Computer Data (WSSECD) issued by the Cebu Regional Trial Court Branch 11, a team composed of NBI-AHTRAD and NBI-Central Visayas Regional Office (NBI-CEVRO), in coordination with the DOJ-IACAT, IACAT Region VII, DSWD Region VII, and with the support of the NGO partners from the International Justice Mission Region VII, proceeded to Sitio Cabancalan II, Bulacao, Cebu City on July 29, 2022 and arrested Romero.
