PDP-Laban faction tags prexy bet Pacquiao as ‘Man of Destiny’

THE PARTIDO Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) of Senator Koko Pimentel group on Sunday nominated Senator Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao as their presidential candidate in the upcoming 2022 national elections.

Several Regional Representatives of the party has nominated Pacquiao during their national assembly.

“Exciting ito dahil malaki ang posibilidad na mananalo tayo sa darating na halalan at ang tunay na PDP-Laban and magpapatakbo ng gobyerno,” Pimentel, Chairman of the Party said in his opening remarks.

The nomination came two weeks after the opposing wing of the PDP-Laban faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi had endorsed Senator Christopher “Bong” Go as their presidential candidate, and President Rodrigo Duterte as their candidate for the vice president in the coming polls.

Duterte accepted the endorsement, while Go declined, saying he is not interested in the presidency.

Pacquiao was tagged as ‘Man of Destiny’ by their party members.

In his acceptance speech, Pacquiao said “I am a fighter and I will always be a fighter inside and outside the ring.”

“Sa buong buhay ko, wala akong laban na inaatrasan. dahil sa ngalan ng prinsipyo, karangalan ng bayan ay tumayo ako, nanindigan, at nakipaglaban,” he added.

“Damang-dama ko po ang nararamdaman ninyong lahat. Alam ko ang hirap na naranasan ninyo at alam kong pagod na pagod na kayong lahat…The time is now. We are ready to rise to the challenge of leadership,” Pacman further stressed.

At the same time, the party gave authority to Pacquiao to choose his runningmate.

Meanwhile, a House leader expressed full support to Senator Pacquiao.

Deputy Speaker and Buhay Party-list Rep. Lito Atienza welcomed the nomination of Pacquiao as the official presidential candidate of another PDP-Laban faction.

“We are in full support of his dream and wisdom of a prosperous life for every Filipino,” he said.

Pacquiao is currently the ruling PDP-Laban is divided by Pacquiao’s group political tussles with that of allies of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Pacquiao, who holds at least eight titles in the world boxing competition, is the second senator who declared intention to run for the highest position. The first one was Senator Panfilo Lacson.

According to Atienza, Pacquiao is the best person to lead the country because of his sincerity and interest to serve the Filipino people.

“Manny is the right man to lead the nation after this administration. We describe the man in four words: maka-Diyos, makatao, makabayan, makakalikasan,” Atienza said. With Jester Manalastas
