PDEG working overtime to fight PH drug rings
AGENTS of the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) have stepped-up their operations to identify and arrest the personalities behind major syndicates involved in the large-scale trafficking of shabu and other illegal substances in the country, the director of the unit told the Journal Group last Saturday.
“We’re working overtime to neutralize more drug syndicates operating in our land and are calling on the citizenry to provide us with more information,” said Brigadier General Eleazar P. Matta.
Last week, the official reported to PNP chief, General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil that they arrested 11 of their top targets, three of them Chinese nationals following a series of anti-narcotics operations which led in the recovery of nearly P96 million worth of shabu and other prohibited drugs.
Two of the Chinese nationals–one of them a 35-year old male and the other a 32-year old female–were arrested in a buy-bust in Brgy. Don Bosco in Parañaque City around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Recovered from the duo by undercover officers from the PDEG National Capital Region were an estimated 100 grams of Ketamine valued at P500,000.
The 3rd, described as playing a ‘key role’ in a major drug trafficking syndicate operating in the metropolis, was arrested in a sting in Brgy. 76, Zone 10, Pasay City around 6:10 p.m. Wednesday.
According to Brig. Gen. Matta, confiscated from the 26-year-old male Chinese were 546 grams of suspected shabu, 643 grams of suspected Amphetamine Hydrochloride and 114 grams of suspected Ketamine with an estimated value of P7.693 million.
Two others identified as alias Jeboy, 37, and alias Rodel, 45, were arrested in Brgy. 676 in Ermita, Manila on Thursday evening.
Recovered from the possession of the duo were 11 kilograms of shabu worth P74.8 million.
Another two suspects, identified as alias Janex, 28; and alias Jeny, 19, were arrested in a follow-up operation in North Prenza 2 in Marilao, Bulacan 4:15 p.m. Thursday. The two yielded a kilo of shabu worth P6.8 million.
Two other suspects were arrested following two operations which yielded nearly P800,000 worth of shabu.
