THE country’s biggest group of ship owners and operators is appealing to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to continue the tenure of Francisco Comendador III as General Manager of Cebu Port Authority (CPA).

The Philippine Coastwise Shipping Association , Inc (PCSA) has sent a letter to President Marcos. It was signed by Lucio Roger Lim Jr., Chairman of PCSA and Paul Rodriguez, President.

“In behalf of the Board and members of the Philippine Coastwise Shipping Association , Inc (PCSA), the biggest ship owners and ship operators group in the country today with more than 50 members and operating more than 800 vessels serving thousands of passengers daily and transporting cargoes nationwide , we are endorsing the continued tenure of Mr. Francisco Commendador III as General Manager of the Cebu Port Authority (CPA),” the letter read.

Comendador was appointed by the President last July 2023 as chief executive officer and acting general manager of the CPA.

He was also appointed commissioner of Cebu Port Commission (CPC), the governing body of CPA. He is a member of the Sangguniang Bayan of Liloan, Cebu.

Members of the PCSA said that they knew Comendador when he started with CPA last July 13, 2023 and in that span of time, they were able to measure his compassion in the management of the CPA and addressing the various challenges it has been facing.

“His experience as a Sangguniang Kabataan Chairman and a Barangayu Chairman of Barangay Jubay, Liloan, Cebu, and eventually being a Sangguniang member of the Municipality of Lilo-an Cebu, for four terms show his excellence in management skills most especially on the human resource sector which is vital in port administration,” they added.

Likewise, they cited Comendador experience in the private sector, since he was previously employed in the management in one of the port stakeholders previously operating with CPA which exposes him to essential port operations.

“We continue to trust in his dedicated work and we are very certain and assured that if he continues to be the General Manager of CPA, CPA will be the most beneficial to his skills and experience in the Authority’s port administration particularly in Cebu province,” they added.
