PCL rapid chessfest on Nov. 6

THE inaugural Philippine Chess League FIDE-rated non-master rapid chess tournament will get underway on Sunday, Nov. 6 at Robinsons Townville Buhay Na Tubig in Imus, Cavite.

PCL president NA Cesar Calopez said the first over-the-board competition of the PCL is expected to test the mettle of both of members and non-members after months of online tournaments.

“We the PCL Quezon City Chapter decided to explore the activity outside National Capital Region,” said NA Dioniver Medrano.

At stake are cash prizes with the champion getting the lion’s share of P3,500, the runner-up P2,000 and third placer P1,000.

The fourth and fifth placers will receive P800 and P700, respectively.

Category winners for top Senior 55 and above, top female, top PWD, top elementary, top high school and top college will get P500 each.

The event is sanctioned by FIDE and the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP).

Other event officials are NA Boyet Tardecilla, NA Ferdinand Reyes, NA Francis Ramos, NA Albert Dacallos, NA Joel Anthony Hicap and CA Ruben Cuevas.

They are alll licensed arbiters of PACC.
