PCG1NAIC, Cavite – Around 51 sea turtle hatchlings were released by officers and members of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) NCR-Central Luzon (NCR-CL), in Pawikan Conservation facility in Barangay Labac, Thursday, February 9, 2023.

The Coast Guard NCR-CL, through PCG Malacañang and Cavite, released the sea turtles on the beach in coordination with Bgy. Labac village chuef Roger Bilugan.

“The said sea creatures, known to the Filipinos as ‘Pawikan,’ are considered to be endangered marine species. The PCG team, together with the localities, was able to release 50 turtle hatchlings that were incubated and protected by the Bgy. Labac’s nesting facility. More or less 400 live sea turtles were released by the PCG, and the said LGU (local government unit) for the past two years,” said Lieutenant Commander Michael Encina.

This activity supported Republic Act (RA) No. 9147 or the Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act of 2001, which aims to conserve and protect wildlife species and their habitat to promote ecological balance and enhance biological diversity.

A long-time partnership built by PCG with its local constituents brings coast guarding just next to their doorsteps in promoting a rich and diverse marine environment.
