PBBM-TRUMP MEETUP
PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed his desire to meet with United States President Donald Trump to influence his policymaking, particularly on immigration.
The current US immigration policy has impacted Filipinos and is a concern that the President seeks to address with the US as the Philippines, a long-time security ally.
He said Filipinos in the US have already “formed a very important part of their workforce.”
During a media interview in Cebu, President Marcos expressed his hope to meet with Trump to discuss various aspects of the Philippines-US relationship, particularly regarding trade, defense, security, and immigration policy.
“Nagpauwi na yata ng ilang daan na Pilipino. This is something that we have to work through and hopefully resolve. We’ll see how we can influence policymaking in terms of immigration,” he said.
The President declined to elaborate on whether Trump’s policies concern the Philippine government, as the situation remains unclear. However, he expressed confidence that it will soon “crystalize and become clearer.” PCO
