IT will be another busy Friday as “Sports on Air Weekly” takes another look at basketball and horseracing, two of the Filipinos’ favorite sports, as they prepare for the new normal in sports amid the pandemic.

PBA coaches Pido Jarencio of NorthPort Batang Pier, Chris Gavina of Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and Ariel Vanguardia of Blackwater Bosing will talk about the coming resumption of the PBA Governors’ Cup starting Feb. 11.

All three coaches will talk about their strict training as they prepare for the return of the import-flavored conference after almost a month of inactivity due to the surge of the coronavirus cases.

Philippine Racing Commission (PHILRACOM) Chairman Aurelio “Reli” de Leon will take centerstage in the first half of the two-part program starting at 9:30 a.m.

De Leon, who became the 12th chairman of PHILRACOM in December 2020, will talk about the plans for the horseracing industry during the pandemic.

Among the topics to be discussed are the schedule of the major stakes races this year, including the P10-million Presidential Gold Cup, the P5-m Cojuangco Cup and the P3.5-m Triple Crown; the launching of the first Philippine Horseracing Hall of Fame; the first 2400-meter race at the San Lazaro Leisure Park; and the first Philippine horseracing and breeding expo sometime in November or December.

De Leon will also discuss the commission’s effort to boost the horseracing industry, which gives an average tax contribution to the government of P 1.2 billion before the pandemic.
