MALACAÑANG has designated a new administrator for the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) after the untimely passing of the agency’s head last month.

Secretary Guiling “Gene” A. Mamondiong, a former director general of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will now head the development and expansion of water services and sanitation in the countryside.

In his welcome remarks during a flag ceremony at the LWUA headquarters in Quezon City, the new Administrator said he would focus on looking after the welfare of the LWUA employees and strengthening the role of water districts in national development. He also added that he will strive to make LWUA a corrupt-free government agency.

A lawyer from Lanao del Sur, Mamondiong also served as transportation undersecretary during the term of President Fidel V. Ramos and President Gloria M. Arroyo.
