PAGASA modernization
AS a favorite “sparring partner” of catastrophic natural disasters, the country needs to speed up the modernization of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
During the rainy season, destructive typhoons and floods ravage Metropolitan Manila and many parts of this Southeast Asian nation.
And today, the temperatures continue to rise in the country, with the start of summer.
That’s why we commend the weather bureau for its decision to pursue its modernization program.
Within the year, PAGASA hopes to acquire a new instrument to improve its forecast services, particularly on the heat index.
Due to the rising heat index in the metropolis and other parts of Luzon, face-to-face (F2F)classes in some public and private schools are still suspended.
“Tama lang ang suspension ng F2F classes, lalo na sa public schools,” according to a mother of a Grade 1 pupil.
It is public knowledge that the heat in many government schools “is unbearable” because they are not equipped with airconditioning units.
PAGASA needs the support of the public as it pursues its modernization program for the sake of the country and people.
