
Paete-PGFlex nails semis berth
CALAMBA, Laguna — Paete-PGFlex outsteadied San Pedro City-Leads Agri, 90-81, to clinch the fourth and last semifinals spot in the 2022 National Basketball League (NBL) Inter-City Basketball Championship held at National University Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba City Laguna.
Four players, led by Jaylo Caday, scored in double figures for Paete of former national team coach Johnny Tam and manager Nelson Guevarra to roll back San Pedro City-Leads Agri and close out the elimination round with a 5-3 win-loss record in this nine-team tournament organized by BAP Region 4 Head Leonardo “Ding” Andres.
Caday, who was named “Best Player of the Game”, scored 19 points for the PG Flex Linoleum-supported Paete squad.
Lionel Failon added 14 points, Raffy Reyes had 13 points and Brian Ilad contributed 10 points for Paete-PGFlex, which will now face No. 1 seed Calamba City-Alta CalamBAGO in cross-over semifinals.
Bon Quirante finished with 18 points for San Pedro City-Leads Agri of coach Dharies Creencia.
David Wrench and Reggie Tauto-an contributed 17 points apiece.
Romulo Raytos is the commissioner while Marcial Macapanton, Alvin Tungol, Pedro Raytos and Joenald Pacquiao head the technical commitee.
Earlier, Calamba City-Alta CalamBAGO defeated San Pedro City-AMB, 81-72, to complete an eight-game sweep of the elimination round.
The Mayor Roseller H. Rizal-supported Alta CalamBAGO relied on Justin Ramilo, Shawn Algire, Lester Maurillo, Limwhell Calibo in beating San Pedro-AMB.
