Pa, so nabbed for ex-soldier’s slay

POLICEMEN arrested a father and son tagged in the fatal shooting of a retired AFP Member in Brgy. Inarawan, Antipolo City.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director, Police Brigadier General Antonio C Yarra identified the arrested suspects as Deogenes Rodriguez and his son as Steven Dennis Rodriguez, residents of 30 KM, Marcos Highway, Sitio Inuman, Brgy. Inarawan, Antipolo City.

A report from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) of the QCPD showed that at around 6:45 p.m. of October 26, 2021, victim Daniel Wilson, a retired 2nd Lieutenant of AFP was shot dead at the corner of Scout Madriñan and Sgt. Esguerra Ave., Brgy. South Triangle, Quezon City.

A follow-up operation was immediately conducted by the CIDU under PMaj. Elmer Monsalve wherein they were able to obtain CCTV footage from the nearby establishment.

A barangay kagawad who was captured in the said footage was invited by the police.

The said barangay official told the police that he and his wife were inside their eatery located along Sgt. Esguerra Ave., Brgy. South Triangle, Quezon City when a white Starex van with plate number UOP-300 arrived and parked nearby.

The witness said the victim went to his eatery.

Moments later, Deogenes occupied the chair behind the victim.

The witness said, Deogenes signalled Steven Dennis to shoot the victim.

The suspects escaped after the incident.

The barangay kagawad further averred that he was not able to report the said incident because of fear.

He said there are also several individuals who witnessed the incident.

At about 10:30 p.m. of October 27, 2021, CIDU coordinated with the Provincial Police Office of Antipolo, Rizal and conducted a pursuit operation at the residence of the suspects.

Upon arrival, they saw a white Hyundai Starex parked inside which was positively identified by the witness as the same vehicle used by the suspects.

The operatives saw the suspects who was also positively identified by the witness as the same persons responsible in the fatal shooting of the victim and immediately arrested them.

Another son of Deogenes identified as John Percival Rodriguez was also arrested for allegedly trying to obstruct and intervene in the arrest.

A manhunt operation is being conducted against the driver identified as Alex.

Aside from the Hyundai Starex van, also confiscated were a Sig Sauer 1911, .45 caliber pistol with inserted magazine loaded with seven live ammunition and an extra magazine loaded with seven live ammunition; a varsity bag containing a bandolier vest; a Trijicon rifle scope; an Elisco M4 Carbine with serial number RT134316 inserted with magazine loaded with 15 live ammunition; a .45 caliber magazine; 73 5.56 live ammunition; 13 9MM live ammunition; three cellular phones; and a handheld radio.

Cases for murdee will be filed against Deogenes and Dennis before the QC Prosecutor’s Office while a separate complaint of violation of RA 10591 will be referred against the same suspects before the Antipolo City Prosecutor’s Office.

John Percival will be charged with disobedience and resisting arrest before the Antipolo City Prosecutor’s Office.

PBGEN Yarra commended the CIDU operatives for their relentless efforts in pursuing the case which resulted in the immediate arrest of the suspects. He ordered a manhunt operation against the remaining suspect.
