HINIHILING ng mga transport groups ang P3 provisional increase o dagdag-singil sa minimum fare sa public utility jeepneys (PUJs), modern man at traditional jeepney dahil na rin sa sunod-sunod na “big-time” na pagtaas ng presyo ng produktong petrolyo sa buong bansa.

Kabilang sa P3 provisional increase ang P1 hike sa minimum fare na iginawad ng Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) para sa pampasaherong jeep sa Metro Manila, Central Luzon, at Region IV-Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal Quezon) at Mimaropa (Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan).

Sa petisyong inihain sa LTFRB ng limang transport groups, isinusulong nila ang implementasyon sa buong bansa ng P1 provisional increase mula sa LTFRB noong Hunyo 8 para Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa at Central Luzon, kabilang na ang P2 provisional increase sa lahat ng PUJs sa buong Pilipinas.

Inihain ang petisyon ng 1-United Transport Alliance Koalisyon (1-UTAK), Pasang-Mada, ALTODAP at ACTO.

“And with the implementation of wage hikes nationwide for the benefit of ordinary workers, it is only fitting for PUJ operators to be treated with an equal measure of justice and solicitude and be granted the desperately needed additional minimum fare increase in order to give PUJ drivers and workers a “fighting chance” to earn a decent income higher than at least the minimum wage,” saad sa petisyon.

Sa hiwalay na interview sinabi ni Atty. Vigor Mendoza II, chairman at presidente ng 1-UTAK, dapat pa ring ituloy ang mga alternatibong programa para matulungan ang mga transport groups.

“The granting of the fare increase, no matter how small, is a welcome relief for the transport drivers and operators. But, programs should be implemented in order for the industry to be more efficient and resilient to fuel price shocks,” saad ni Mendoza.
