COMBINED agents of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Friday and Saturday uprooted and destroyed an estimated P25.8 million worth of fully-grown marijuana plants discovered planted in the mountainous area of n Tinglayan, Kalinga province, PNP chief General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar said.

The PNP chief said that found in Sitio Ballay in Bgy. Tulgao, Tinglayan were nearly 140,000 pieces of fully-grown cannabis plants found growing in five different sites. The prohibited crops were burned by the anti-narcotics officers.

Eleazar commended members of the PNP Drug Enforcement Group headed by Brigadier Gen. Remus B. Medina, the Cordillera Police Regional Office director headed by Brig. Gen. Ronald O. Lee and the PDEA under Director General Wilkins M. Villanueva for their latest accomplishment in the campaign against marijuana.

“Patuloy po nating hahanapin at uubusin ang mga marijuana plantations sa rehiyon bilang bahagi ng ating kampanya kontra iligal na droga,” he said.

The PNP chief said that although no arrests were made during the 2-day operation, local policemen are still tracking down persons who were believed to be behind the cultivation of the banned crops prior to their smuggling to Metro Manila and other urban parts of the country.

“Base sa impormasyon, walang nahuli dito sa marijuana plantation eradication operation na ito. Pero patuloy po naming tinutugis ang namamahala sa mga plantasyong ito lalo na dito sa CAR na kadalasan ay pinanggagalingan ng supply ng marijuana na ating nasasabat,” he said

“We urge the public to help us in this campaign by giving information that could help us in our anti-illegal drug operations, not only in this region but in the entire country,” the PNP chief added.

Early this month, a total of P45.915 million worth of marijuana plants were also discovered and burned in separate operations in Benguet province by the Cordillera police.
