STEPPED-UP anti-narcotics operations by the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) last November led in the arrest of 80 suspects and the confiscation of over P43 million worth of shabu and other prohibited substance, the Journal Group learned yesterday.

PNP-DEG director Brigadier General Eleazar P. Matta said that from November 1 to 30, they conducted 36 buy-bust operations, served five search warrants for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, raided three secret marijuana plantations and led one drug interdiction operation.

The 62 anti-drug operations resulted in the arrest of 63 drug personalities including some ‘high-value targets’ and 17 others who are long wanted for violation of RA 9165.

The official said that the said operations led in the recovery of nearly 4.929 kilograms of shabu, 230ml of marijuana oil, 46,800 fully-grown cannabis plants and seedlings and some 6.3 kilos of dried marijuana leaves.

The value of the recovered illegal drugs was placed at nearly 43.908 million by the PDEA.

Brig. Gen. Matta said those accomplishments were made amid their continuing effort to have a humane, rights-based approach to law enforcement in the country.

He further emphasized that PNP-DEG’s s achievements align with the PNP’s recalibrated Anti-Illegal Drug Campaign Roadmap 2024-2028 which was approved by General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, the PNP chief.

“This roadmap enhances the PNP’s strategies against illegal drugs while maintaining a humane and rights-based approach. “This roadmap draws on the hard-earned lessons from the past, acknowledging the sacrifices of thousands of police officers who bore the brunt of enforcement efforts, many of whom demonstrated unparalleled heroism in the line of duty,” said Gen. Marbil.
