COMBINED agents of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement (PDEA) on Thursday uprooted and destroyed over P40 million worth of fully-grown marijuana plants and seedlings in Tinglayan, Kalinga, PNP chief General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar said.

The PNP chief said that nearly 203,000 fully-grown cannabis plants valued at P40.7 million were found in five different uninhabited sites in Bgy. Loccong in Tinglayan by members of the Cordillera Police Regional Office under Brigadier Gen. Ronald O. Lee, the PNP Drug Enforcement Group led by Brig. Gen. Remus B. Medina and the PDEA under Director General Wilkins M. Villanueva.

As of press time, PNP and PDEA operatives are still tracking down the cultivators of the raided marijuana sites even as Eleazar lauded his men for another successful marijuana eradication in the country in partnership with the PDEA.

“Ipagpatuloy lamang natin ang mga ganitong operasyon para sa patuloy nating pagsupil sa ilegal na droga,” he said.

Cordillera remains to be the top producer of marijuana in the country due to its weather favorable for the growing of cannabis. Next to shabu, marijuana remains to be the most abused drug in the Philippines.

A kilo of marijuana fetches a minimum price of P5,000 in the underground market compared to shabu which cost around P6.8 million a kilo.
