THE continued aggressive campaign by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) against unregistered or “colorum” vehicles led to the apprehending of over 6,000 vehicles in the first half of June.

LTO chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said 6,064 motor vehicles were apprehended – 5,127 were motorcycles while the rest were four-wheeled vehicles, during the implementation of the “No Registration, No Travel” policy.

He said the continuous operation should serve as a constant reminder to delinquent motor vehicle owners of their obligation to renew the registration of their vehicles.

“The renewal of the registration is not only an obligation to the government, but it is also an obligation to yourself and your family because doing so would compel you to ensure the roadworthiness of your motor vehicles, for your safety, for the safety of your love ones,” Mendoza said.

“Huwag sana tayong magsisi na naman sa huli kung ano dapat ang ginawa. Mataaas ang penalty at may kasama pang impound. Pero ang mas matindi dito at kung ang pagsasawalang-bahala natin ay mauwi sa aksidente,” he added.

The aggressive campaign against unregistered motor vehicles was part of the road safety instruction of Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista, as the renewal of motor vehicles requires a check on their condition.
