THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) launched Tuesday, February 11, “Operation Baklas.” drawing cheers from residents, passersby. motorists and commuters.

The operation coincided with the start of the 90-day election campaign period for national candidates – senators and party-list organizations.

Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia supervised the removal of prohibited campaign materials and those displayed outside the so-called “common poster areas.”

Only election campaign materials posted by supporters of national candidates were removed.

Reports said the Comelec did not touch the campaign posters of local candidates since their campaign period starts on March 28

The poll body launched “Operation Baklas” on Radial Road 10, Mel Lopez Boulevard and adjacent streets in heavily-populated Tondo in Manila.

Hopefully, the poll body succeeds in ridding the country of illegal election campaign materials. notably oversized billboards.
